Third Avatar film has been delayed to 2025
After The Way of Water, the new Avatar movie gets delayed
Avatar: The Way of Water recently arrived on Disney+ after its successful run in theaters, becoming the third highest-grossing film of all time. However, fans of the James Cameron-led franchise will have to wait longer for the next film, as Avatar 3 has been delayed by a year and will now premiere in December 2025.
Disney has made several changes to its cinema release schedule, pushing back the next three Avatar films by a year. Avatar 3, which has already been filmed and is in post-production, has been moved from December 2024 to December 2025. Avatar 4 will hit theaters in December 2029, followed by Avatar 5 in December 2031. This means we will have Avatar films at least until 2031. How old will you be when it hits theaters?
The Way of Water is set more than a decade after the first battle on Pandora between the native Na'vi and the humans. In the sequel, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) have formed a family and peacefully live in the forest tribe of Omaticaya, doing everything they can to stay together. However, they must leave home and explore other regions when an ancient and dangerous threat resurfaces, forcing Jake to wage a difficult war against the humans once again.
Among the other changes in Disney's schedule, we have the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadpool 3 has been pushed from May 3, 2024, to November 8, 2024. Avengers: Kang's Dynasty has been postponed to May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars to May 7, 2027. Additionally, Captain America: Brave New World will now release on July 26, 2024, Thunderbolts on December 20, 2024, Blade on February 14, 2025, and Fantastic Four on May 2, 2025.
As for Disney's new additions, two Star Wars films are being prepared for 2026, and another film is scheduled for December 17, 2027, but the premises of these productions have not been revealed yet. A new film in the Alien franchise, directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Cailee Spaeny, is set for August 16, 2024.
