"Show Hollywood How It's Done": Godzilla Returns with Disturbing Version in Japanese Film
Toho's feature film resumes the terrifying narrative of the monster.
Godzilla is, undoubtedly, the epitome of the kaiju concept, a term associated with giant monsters featured in numerous science fiction tales. After gaining a North American franchise in 2014 - which continues with sequels and an upcoming series on Apple TV+ -, the character is returning to its roots.
On Monday (4th), a new trailer for Godzilla: Minus One was released by the Japanese studio Toho, known for introducing this fantastical universe through productions such as Mothra, King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, Rodan, and Godzilla itself. The film is directed by Takashi Yamazaki, known for Stand by Me Doraemon and Lupin III: The First.
Monster unleashed! The sequel to one of the biggest fantasy blockbusters of recent times will shake even the most skeptical fans.
Set to premiere in the Land of the Rising Sun in November, the project is set in post-war Japan, adding a political element and creating a metaphor about the country's state of destruction, much like the 1954 film. It will go "from zero to negative", as the preview released today suggests.
With harrowing scenes, the footage presents a slightly smaller version than what we saw in Godzilla vs Kong and its preceding films, but its brutality appears to be even more intense. βAfter the war, Japan's economic situation was reduced to zero. Godzilla emerges and plunges the country into a negative state,β says the official synopsis, restoring the giant's more terrifying side.
Streaming News: One of the biggest fantasy blockbusters of recent years - and it couldn't be more epic. While there's still no exact date for the premiere of Godzilla: Minus One it's worth noting that the series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is set to debut on Apple's streaming service this year. The plot will pick up after the events of Godzilla vs Kong.
